Introduction

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea"
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

With that in mind one may think that anybody with a passion for the sea can build an ocean going yacht. But be warned! It is not something that can be taken lightly. It takes time and dedication. This project was started in 2004 with the purchase of plans for the Didi 34. Although almost finished, it is still ongoing.

Laminated floors (2006)

Next the laminated floors were made. Meranti strips 8mm thick were clamped into position against the stringers and backbone with glue between the strips but not against stringers and backbone. Each floor was done in three stages. After each was cured, the floors were removed from the hull, shaped and cleaned. Spacers that are needed between the floors and backbone were fitted and doublers were added on center line. The floors were then glued and screwed to all structures they touched on the hull.
Laminating on the hull setup
Laminate clamped onto stringers and backbone to get shape
Floors removed and ready for cleanup and finishing
Floors glued to stingers and backbone (note spacers at backbone)
Doublers at front face of floors (to replace wood lost as result of drilling for keelbolts)
