The Didi 34 is a modern offshore cruiser/racer designed by the marine architect Dudley Dix. The design is aimed at home builders who want to build a simple and fast boat built by the radius chine plywood method. This building method is simple, strong and uses no fancy materials or parts and is designed for home/kit construction.
The Didi 34 is a great boat for weekend excursions, club and offshore racing. Although not a classical heavy long-keeled cruiser, she is best on longish offshore courses and with her interior layout will perform well on occasional cruising. She is easily handled with a crew of just two, is a remarkably dry on a beat with little pounding and off the wind is quite steady and fast. It is possible to sail her single-handed assuming a roller-furling headsail, tiller-pilot and stackpack on the main.
She sails at her best at 12-15 knots and wants the 1st reef at about 20 knots. She is a capable and fast boat on all points of sail with reaching being her strong point.
The Didi 34 is a fantastic all-rounder with impressive performance, cabin space, safety, good handling, and great looks. If you saw a Didi 34 at the dock you would not guess that she is build and shaped from flat plywood panels.
