Introduction

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea"
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

With that in mind one may think that anybody with a passion for the sea can build an ocean going yacht. But be warned! It is not something that can be taken lightly. It takes time and dedication. This project was started in 2004 with the purchase of plans for the Didi 34. Although almost finished, it is still ongoing.

Aft deck construction (2015)

I started on the deck construction in February of 2015. First, all the deck stringers had to be installed. Most of the deck stringer notches were in place already (cut during bulkhead construction), therefore it was only a matter of scarfing the stringers into their proper lengths, cleaning them up and gluing the stringers into the notches. When the glue was set, all the stringer surfaces as well as the sheer clamps and bulkhead tops were planed for a proper fit of the deck sheets. The bridge deck beam was laminated in position using 32 x 10 mm strips  to obtain the deck curve, removed, cleaned and refitted into position. Before the deck sheets were laid all interior surfaces were coated with a final layer of epoxy.
